Homestyle Easter Egg Hunt

This one takes a bit of patience to get the most joyous outcome, but it’s so worth it.

  1. Buy a box of your favorite candy. I love gummy fruit snacks, but if you prefer something without colorings or additives such as Red 40 or Blue 1, there are a number of other options these days with the help of science and a little tender love and care. Whatever you choose, I’d recommend them in the form of tiny packages (i.e. less width or height than a typical music CD) rather than full-sized (i.e. a bag of potato chips). Try a couple of different snacks or variety packs if the idea appeals to you. You’re free to use whatever fan-favorite snack your heart desires.
  2. Place the snacks one by one in nooks and crannies all around your house, your apartment, your bedroom, your tent, or wherever you find home. Try choosing places you don’t interact with on a daily basis but that you might interact with within, say, three months or less (remember to check the expiration date).
  3. Try putting one between the couch cushions; or inside a pencil pouch; or under your pillow; or in your bookshelf; or in a shoe; or behind your desk; or in a linen closet; or atop the stairs. Get creative! Hide them as though you’re in competition with yourself: if you think it’s a good hiding spot, then it probably is.
  4. Now that you’ve hidden them all away, forget about them. Poof. Do something else. Go to work, take a shower, take a walk, cook a meal, and just go about living your life.
  5. Over time, you will stumble across these hidden treats by surprise. And if you’re anything like me, you might feel that gleeful burst of magic at rediscovering something forgotten but never quite lost. And on days when you don’t feel like yourself, this is a very special feeling, indeed.
  6. Enjoy.
